Read more - Berkeley students take part in Hounslow Borough Sports Day

Well done to the children in Year 2 who took part in the Hounslow Borough Sports Day on Tuesday 9th February 2015. The event was held at Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre and 47 schools from across the borough of Hounslow were in attendance.

Five boys and five girls were selected from Maple and Sycamore classes to compete in a range of athletics events against 11 other schools at the same time. The group competed in events such as hurdles, obstacle and relay races against local schools for a chance to qualify for the semi-final later in the day.

After an unfavourable start to the first 3 events, Berkeley closed the gap on the points leaders with an emphatic performance in the rugby relay race, finishing 1st ahead of Springwell and Cranford Primary.  With only 2 events remaining, Berkeley turned up the pressure on other schools with a solid show in the hurdles race, finishing 2nd.  The 10 children demonstrated the determination they had in reserve at the end of a long day when they finished 2nd during the relay race.  However, despite a solid finish, we missed out on a place in the semi-final by the narrowest of margins.

A fantastic performance by all those involved. They had an excellent day and enjoyed cheering on all other teams involved in an admirable show of sportsmanship.  Well done Year 2!
