Cranford Community College Teaching School Alliance is recruiting graduates to train to become qualified teachers via the School Direct training route. Cranford Community College is a Lead School for School Direct in partnership with Teaching London: LDBS SCITT.
Successful trainees will undertake a comprehensive programme to gain Qualified Teacher Status and the PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) in conjunction with our partner university.
In order to apply you need to be a graduate or in your final year at university, and you need GCSE Maths, English and Science grade C or above.
What is School Direct?
School Direct is a school based route into teaching. As a School Direct trainee with Berkeley Academy and our ITT provider, the TEACHING LONDON SCITT, you'll learn alongside inspiring, passionate teachers with outstanding pedagogical skills. We will train you to become successful, confident, effective teachers, well equipped to teach in a dynamic and vibrant London Primary School.
As a School Direct trainee, you willl undertake entirely 'on the job' teacher training, allowing you to gain the qualifications and practical skills required to become a teacher.
Successful School Direct trainees will gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with the option to achieve a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) worth 60 Masters level credits
Applicant Requirements:

A relevant degree from a UK university or a recognised university abroad (NARIC assessed)

The degree must be linked to the subject you want to train to teach for secondary, but this is not required for primary.

GCSE Grade C or above in English, Maths and Science

Although not essential, experience of working with children and or young people would be an advantage

We recommend applicants to have first-hand experience of the rewards and challenges teaching involves and therefore need a minimum of two weeks relevant and recent experience in a school prior to interview is suggested. Click here for School Experience Programme (SEP)

Generally, you should have at least 3 years’ work experience if applying for a salaried route though this isn’t necessary for shortage subjects and tuition fee programmes. This may be in any career and should usually be in the years following graduation.
* Prior to starting the training you will be required to complete a health questionnaire and satisfy Fitness to Teach requirements
** You will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (EDBS) barred list and criminal records check
*** If you are not a British national you must ensure that you are eligible to work and study in the UK.
Funding and Salary:
School Direct Unsalaried route:
Candidates may be offered training places which may attract tuition fee loans, training bursaries or scholarships depending on subject and class of degree. Candidates taking this route will be required to pay £9,000 training fee. This may be financed with a student loan.

How to Find Details of all our Courses
If you are looking to apply to get into teaching and train with us, you will now need to go through the Department of Education website. You can select 4 different providers when submitting your application; when submitting your application to train to teach with us, you will need to select Cranford Community College as your provider. Once you do this, the relevant Accredited Body and SCITT for Cranford Community College will have access to your application after submission as well as us. We (the main placement school) and the SCITT will both look at the application and if your application is suitable, we will then be in contact to arrange an interview.
